Tomoko Yamane always has one question for her friends: "Are you hungry?"

During her four-year stint as chef at Tokyo's Combine, Tomoko served up delicious food to the delight of numerous international guests, including DJ Richie Hawtin and visual artist Carsten Nicolai. Her success in Tokyo opened up a world of possibilities when she realized many people unfamiliar with Japanese cuisine - as well as those who were - were entranced by her cooking.

Visiting Berlin on a holiday, Tomoko fell in love with the city and decided then and there to pack her bags and head overseas to start a catering service offering Japanese food prepared in her own unique and delectable style. Upon her moving to Mitte, Berlin in 2009, the catering service okawari was born, with Tomoko's kitchen at its center.
